Professor LIANG Xidong received his B.Sc, M.Sc and PhD degree all in Electrical Engineering in Tsinghua University in 1984, 1987 and 1991 respectively. He is the professor in Department of Electrical Engineering, Tsinghua University from 1997 to present, as well as Dean of Weiyang College, Tsinghua University since 2020. Professor LIANG was also the Dean of Electrical Engineering, Tsinghua University from 2001 to 2007, and he was the President of Qinghai University from 2009 to 2013. He is the Fellow of Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering (CSEE), Fellow of China Electro-technical Society (CES) and Fellow of IET. He was the vice chairman of the board of directors on CES, the executive member of CSEE, as well as the convener of IEC TC36 WG11 and IEC TC36 MT19 since 2017.
His research area is high voltage engineering, focusing on the HVAC and HVDC outdoor insulation and its materials. He received the funding of “National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars” in 2000 obtained National Science and Technology Progress Award (second class) in 1997 and 2016, and won the “1906 Award” from International Electrotechnical Commission in 2019 and 2024 respectively.
